Sunday marked the 46th annual Terry Fox Run across the country, and here in Cobourg, the weather was perfect to mark the occasion.
Cobourg organizers Colin and Jen Powles were all smiles Sunday morning in Victoria Park as they helped runners and walkers set out to observe the event, which has brought people together for a common goal since 1981.
Jen used words such as perseverance and inspiration when describing the feats of the late Terry Fox, and she is proud to be a part of maintaining his legacy here in Cobourg.
Teamwork was the order of the day, and Cynthia Warn, president of the Pine Ridge Hiking Club, was one of the participants who made it out Sunday, adding the event to their regular hiking outings.
Hiking leader Cynthia, who was the catalyst for the idea of walking in Fox’s honour, says the thought occurred to her last year, and it seemed like such a natural idea.
Port Hope also hosted a walk Sunday, with organizer Paul Appleman at the helm of this year’s event. He and many others marked the day, hoping that one day cancers like the one that took Terry Fox’s life will be eradicated for good.
