The PVNC Catholic District School Board plans to seek provincial funding for a two-storey addition at Cobourg’s Notre Dame Catholic Elementary School.
Superintendent Sean Heuchert says the expansion is needed to accommodate students transferred from St. Michael Catholic Elementary School, which closed in June. Staff are preparing a revised proposal while awaiting the province’s capital funding window. The board says costs will account for tariffs and supply-chain pressures.
The board is also considering the future of the now-empty St. Michael property.
Officials say the school could be declared surplus this fall before being offered to public-sector organizations. Another school board has expressed interest in using the building as a base for itinerant teachers.
Religious artifacts have been inventoried, with many moved to Notre Dame and a St. Michael statue donated to a local church.
