The Rice Lake Challenge has surpassed $500,000 in fundraising for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, reaching $501,295 after 18 years.
Organizer Brian Connor started the event in memory of his brothers Kevin and Terry, who both died as teenagers from the disease. What began as a five-kilometre swim has grown to include a six-kilometre walk and a 105-kilometre cycling route.
This year, Connor and longtime friend George Bennett completed the swim indoors at the Damian Warner Fitness Centre in London.
