Cobourg police are reminding residents about the risks associated with electric scooters, particularly among young riders, following a collision last week.
Police say officers responded Aug. 20 at about 4:30 p.m. to a crash involving an e-scooter and a vehicle near Elgin Street and Chipping Park Boulevard.
A youth was taken to hospital by paramedics with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say no charges were laid following the investigation.
The incident has prompted renewed safety concerns. The Canadian Paediatric Surveillance Program’s 2025 annual report recorded 57 serious e-scooter and e-bike-related injuries involving children and youth across Canada, including 10 deaths. Head injuries accounted for nearly half of the reported cases.
Cobourg police are encouraging residents to learn more about e-scooter safety and are pointing the public to resources available through the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.
