Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre is inviting the community to lace up for its annual Walk A Mile fundraiser, returning to downtown Cobourg on Saturday, October 3.
Now in its 19th year, the family-friendly event will take place during Cobourg’s Harvest Festival and will raise funds to support local women, children and youth impacted by gender-based violence.
Over the years, Walk A Mile has raised more than $664,500 for Cornerstone programs and services, including shelter, counselling, housing support, violence prevention education and family court support. Cornerstone says it served more than 2,400 individuals across Northumberland last year alone.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. outside the Cobourg Police Station. Participants will receive a complimentary breakfast from the Cobourg Lions Club and coffee from Pulse Coffee House before setting out on the walk. The Cobourg Police Service Pipes and Drums will once again lead participants down King Street.
All types of footwear are welcome, and participants can walk individually or as part of a team. Registration is $20 for adults and $10 for youth under 18, with walkers encouraged to collect additional pledges.
Lead sponsor Cameco is returning as the event’s Stiletto Sponsor, joined by Challenge Sponsors Canadian Tire Cobourg, Ontario Line Clearing, Wharram Tree Service, Balder Corporation and Dez Capital.
Those unable to attend can still support the fundraiser online. Registration is available through Cornerstone’s Walk A Mile page, while individuals and teams can also create fundraising pages through the organization’s JustGiving campaign.
Cornerstone provides shelter, counselling, housing support and other services aimed at supporting those affected by gender-based violence across Northumberland.
