The Municipality of Brighton will formally establish a new international relationship this Friday during a special meeting of council.
Council will meet at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 28, at the Brighton Municipal Office, where Mayor Brian Ostrander and Town of Brighton, New York Supervisor Bill Moehle are scheduled to sign a Twinning Charter between the two municipalities.
The charter will formally establish a twinning relationship between Brighton, Ontario and the Town of Brighton in New York State.
Brighton Council previously approved the Twinning Charter at its June 1 meeting. Friday’s special council meeting will mark the formal signing of the agreement and the next step in establishing the relationship between the two communities.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony in person at the Municipal Office, located at 35 Alice Street. Residents can also watch the meeting virtually through the municipality’s council meeting platforms and YouTube channel. The Municipality of Brighton directs residents to its Council Portal for agendas and virtual meeting access.
The Town of Brighton, New York is located in the Rochester area and operates its own municipal government led by a town supervisor.
The special meeting will focus on the signing of the Twinning Charter, which will formally establish the partnership between the two Brightons.
