Cobourg is launching a new pilot program aimed at helping seniors and people with disabilities deal with winter snow.
The Snow Clearing Assistance Pilot Program will run from Nov. 1, 2026, until March 31, 2027.
It is open to Cobourg residents who are 65 or older, along with people who are unable to clear snow because of a disability.
The town will accept just 25 participants for the first season. Eligible applicants will be selected through an electronic lottery.
The service will include clearing a roughly three-foot-wide path along municipal sidewalks next to the property. Crews will also clear a one-car-width section of the snow windrow left at the end of a driveway.
The program will not include clearing full private driveways or walkways, and it will not provide sanding or salting.
The cost is $100 for the season, including HST.
Applications are due by 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 14.
After the pilot ends, participants will be surveyed so the town can decide whether the program should be changed or expanded in future winters.
