Northumberland County will begin replacing the Salt Creek culvert on County Road 25 south of Warkworth beginning August 10.
County officials say construction is expected to continue through October and will require a full closure of County Road 25 between Gravel Road and Pine Grove Road.
The project includes the removal of the existing four-metre-wide corrugated steel culvert and the installation of a new 39-metre-long structural steel pipe culvert. Crews will also install a temporary water bypass system to maintain the flow of Salt Creek during construction.
Additional work will include the installation of new steel guide rails and the restoration of the roadway.
County officials say the project is part of the municipality’s ongoing effort to maintain safe and dependable transportation infrastructure while improving the long-term resilience of the roadway.
Signed detour routes will be established for local traffic and heavy trucks during the closure. Residents, businesses, emergency responders, school transportation providers and visitors are being encouraged to plan for additional travel time.
The county says the improvements are intended to support the safe movement of residents, emergency vehicles, agricultural equipment and commercial traffic for years to come.
