At total of eight people have been arrested following a targeted drug enforcement operation in downtown Cobourg.
The Cobourg Police Service says its Street Crime Enforcement Unit and uniform patrol officers carried out the initiative on July 23 as part of ongoing efforts to address open-air drug use, drug possession and trafficking in the downtown core.
During the operation, officers seized a quantity of Schedule I controlled substances and arrested eight adults after allegedly observing them consuming illicit drugs.
Police say multiple charges were laid, including possession of a controlled substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, failing to comply with probation under the Criminal Code, and engaging in prohibited activity on premises under the Trespass to Property Act.
The identities of those charged have not been released.
Cobourg Police are encouraging residents to report suspicious or suspected drug activity, saying timely information helps officers identify trends, support investigations and deploy resources where they are most needed.
