Strong Kids Duathlon 2026 Multiple Items - 35
YMCA Northumberland’s annual Strong Kids Duathlon is expanding to two communities for the first time in the event’s 18-year history.
The family-friendly fundraiser will be held at the Campbellford YMCA on Aug. 13 before moving to the Cobourg Waterfront and Centennial Pool on Aug. 20, giving more children and youth the chance to participate.
The event combines swimming and running challenges for children ages three to 15. Every participant receives a ribbon recognizing their achievement, with organizers emphasizing participation over competition.
This year, the YMCA has doubled its fundraising goal to $10,000. Proceeds will support the organization’s Mothers of Newborns Program and camp initiatives, including plans for an outdoor pavilion at the Campbellford YMCA.
The Mothers of Newborns Program provides free health, wellness and support services for new mothers and babies. The YMCA says the program now reaches more than 60 per cent of new mothers in Northumberland County and has supported more than 2,500 families since 2017.
“There is an incredible energy that the Strong Kids Duathlon brings out in all of us, and expanding to two dates and two locations means we get to double that joy this August,” said YMCA Northumberland President and CEO Eunice Kirkpatrick.
She said the increased fundraising target reflects both the growth of the event and the growing needs of the community.
Registration is $18 per child, with check-in beginning at 5 p.m. and races starting at 5:45 p.m. on both event dates.
The event is supported by local businesses and community sponsors, with additional sponsorship opportunities still available.
