Port Hope Police dealt with a number of investigations over the past two weeks, including a domestic assault, an arrest aboard a VIA Rail train and several incidents where investigators are seeking the public’s assistance.
The most serious occurred on July 2, when officers responded to a report of a domestic assault at a Port Hope residence. A 28-year-old Scarborough man was arrested and charged with spousal assault. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
Two days later, on July 4, police responded to the VIA Rail station after staff requested assistance with an unruly passenger aboard a train. Police allege the individual was causing a disturbance and was found in possession of property belonging to another passenger. When officers attempted to make an arrest, the man allegedly resisted before being taken into custody.
A 31-year-old Quebec man has been charged with theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and resisting a peace officer. He was later released on an undertaking.
Police are also asking for the public’s help with two ongoing investigations.
Investigators are looking for information following a daytime break and enter at a Holland Street home on June 26, believed to have occurred between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Officers are also investigating mischief to a vehicle in the area of Dorset Street West and Pine Street South the same day.
Anyone with dash camera or home surveillance footage from either area is asked to contact the Port Hope Police Service or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
In a separate traffic matter, a Port Hope driver received a seven-day licence suspension after police observed aggressive driving and failing to stop for a red light in the downtown core on June 28.
