Classic cars, vintage motorcycles and community spirit will once again take centre stage in Campbellford when Chrome on the Canal returns on Saturday, July 4th.
The annual event stretches along the Trent-Severn Waterway and attracts vehicle enthusiasts from across Ontario. Visitors can expect everything from antique automobiles and muscle cars to custom motorcycles, along with food vendors, merchandise vendors and family-friendly activities.
Trent Hills Antique and Classic Motorcycle Club Chair Murray Kirkland says the variety of vehicles remains one of the event’s biggest attractions.
While today the event features a mix of cars and motorcycles, its roots are firmly tied to the area’s motorcycle community.
Kirkland says Chrome on the Canal evolved from Charlie Indian Days, a gathering inspired by motorcycle enthusiast Charlie Matney.
The Trent Hills Antique and Classic Motorcycle Club, which organizes the event, is a volunteer-run non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting antique and classic motorcycles while supporting community events and charitable initiatives throughout Trent Hills.
Because the show covers a large section of the canal, volunteers and community partners play a key role in making it accessible for visitors and Kirkland says that without the help of the Trent Hills Fire Department the show just wouldn’t be what it is today.
Golf-cart shuttles will once again help visitors move between display areas, vendors and attractions along the route.
Chrome on the Canal runs Saturday, July 4th in Campbellford.
