Cultivate Community is preparing for a busy summer and fall season, with organizers highlighting a growing list of projects aimed at bringing people together through arts, culture and community engagement.
The Cobourg-based non-profit says details for this year’s Road to Cultivate series will be announced in the coming weeks. The free summer program returns every Thursday throughout July and August, leading into the annual Cultivate Festival scheduled for Sept. 25 to 27.
While the festivals may be the most visible part of the organization, Cultivate’s work continues year-round.
One example is the community garden project, where residents gather every Monday evening to garden, share a potluck meal and help build community connections. Organizers are currently working toward the construction of a small renewable energy-powered stage at the site that could host future performances and events.
The organization is also preparing to publish its first community zine, featuring contributions from local residents ranging in age from seven to 70. The publication is intended to showcase creativity and stories from across the community.
Cultivate’s focus on inclusion and accessibility remains central to its mission. Children and youth are admitted free to many events, while a “no questions asked” policy helps ensure financial barriers do not prevent participation.
That spirit of community is reflected in many of the organization’s events, where families, neighbours and friends gather to share experiences. Whether it’s children laughing beneath a parachute game, volunteers working side-by-side in the garden, or audiences enjoying local performers, organizers say the goal remains the same: creating spaces where people feel welcome, connected and inspired.
Volunteers are currently being recruited for both Road to Cultivate and this fall’s Cultivate Festival. Learn more at https://cultivatefestival.ca/
