Several downtown Port Hope streets will be temporarily closed Saturday morning as Northumberland Pride hosts its annual Pride parade and community celebration.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on June 6 and will serve as the opening event for a free all ages Pride gathering taking place at Memorial Park from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
To accommodate participants, the Municipality of Port Hope says road closures will be in effect from approximately 9:15 a.m. until 10 a.m.
Affected streets include Walton Street between Pine and Mill streets, Queen Street between Walton and Augusta streets, and Ontario Street between Thompson and Walton streets. Access on Ontario Street will be limited to local traffic only.
Municipal officials say all vehicles parked within the closure area will be required to remain in place until the parade has concluded and roads have reopened.
The Municipality notes that Port Hope Transit is aware of the temporary closures and no service disruptions are expected.
Unlike a traditional parade involving floats and vehicles, organizers describe the event as a people procession open to anyone wishing to participate.
Northumberland Pride is encouraging residents to bring family and friends and take part in a day focused on inclusion, community, and celebration.
Following the parade, activities will continue at Memorial Park throughout the day, with the free event welcoming participants of all ages.
Road closures are expected to be lifted immediately following the completion of the walk.
