Work is ramping on the final stages through the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI) cleanup in the West Beach area.
The Municipality of Port Hope recently advised residents of the upcoming restoration efforts, saying crews will start on the final stages as of next Monday, June 8.
“The western section of the site is being restored to a naturalized state, which will support the potential for both wetland ecology and fisheries habitat in the Alexander Creek area,” reads the notice.
During the work, the contractor and authorized site visitors will be parking in the area behind the water treatment plant, noted municipal staff. And to help manage site activity while maintaining public access, cones will be placed at the far east end of the parking area to identify the contractor’s designated parking area.
Meanwhile, officials said the main parking lot will remain open and accessible to residents and visitors.
“Beach access will remain available from the parking lot and playground area during both working and non-working hours,” said the municipality.
During working hours, the contractor is also supposed to maintain a gated pedestrian crossing, with help from a trained flag person ensuring safe access across the work area.
Residents are being asked to use caution when driving or walking in the area and to obey all construction signage and personnel.
