Sewer installation work will mean a temporary full road closure in the Brook Road North/County Road 20 area in Cobourg starting later this week.
Northumberland County said the stretch between Elgin Street East and King Street will be impacted starting Thursday, May 28 through to May 31, 2026.
Officials said the closure is needed for the Town of Cobourg’s contractor to install a trunk sanitary sewer beneath Brook Road North as part of the town’s Cobourg east community trunk servicing project.
“This infrastructure will support future growth and servicing needs in Cobourg’s east end,” explained officials.
Meanwhile, during the closure period, Brook Road North will be limited to local traffic access only. Northumberland County has confirmed that local access will be maintained between Elgin Street East and 833 Brook Rd. N., and between King Street and 450 Brook Rd. N.
All through-traffic will be detoured via D’Arcy Street, with signage in place to guide motorists – and heavy truck traffic will be required to follow a designated detour route along Workman Road, added officials.
Current construction already underway in the Brook Road North area has led to lane restrictions and shifts. After the full closure, officials said periodic daytime lane closures will continue as work progresses and the goal is to complete the project by the end of July.
People living in and travelling through the area are being encouraged to plan ahead and allot extra travel time during the closure.
