Parks Canada says it is continuing work toward a full seasonal reopening of the Trent-Severn Waterway, with navigation across the entire system currently expected to resume by Friday, May 29.
In an update released, officials said crews continue maximizing water flows where possible to help return the system closer to seasonal averages following ongoing high water conditions this spring.
While progress continues, Parks Canada says water levels and flows remain dynamic throughout portions of the system and some areas continue experiencing higher than average water movement.
Boaters, paddlers and swimmers are being urged to use caution while travelling on the waterway.
Officials warn floating debris may still be present and some navigation aids could remain off station as crews continue monitoring and preparing navigation channels.
Parks Canada also says waterways between or adjacent to closed lockstations should still be considered unsafe for navigation until reopening is complete.
The Trent-Severn Waterway remains an important recreational and tourism asset for many Northumberland area boaters and visitors, particularly those accessing nearby portions of the system through the Kawarthas and eastern Ontario waterways.
Parks Canada says updated lockstation opening information will continue being released daily through its website and social media channels until the full system is operational.
Despite navigation restrictions in some areas, all lockstations remain open for land based visitation.
Officials stress the anticipated May 29 reopening remains dependent on weather conditions and future precipitation levels across the watershed.
