Cobourg residents are being advised about a planned Enbridge Pipelines emergency response exercise taking place next week near Cobourg Creek and Peace Park.
According to the Town of Cobourg, the exercise is scheduled for Tuesday, May 26 between approximately 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The training exercise will involve the deployment of emergency response equipment designed to contain and recover a simulated spill as part of Enbridge’s ongoing emergency preparedness program.
Officials say trained personnel will use specialized equipment including containment booms while practicing advanced on water response techniques along Cobourg Creek.
Residents may notice Enbridge vehicles parked along Forth Street near the entrance to Peace Park throughout the exercise.
The Town says Peace Park will remain open and accessible to the public during the training operation, though temporary safety zones will be established near portions of the creek shoreline to protect both the public and response crews.
Signage will also be posted throughout the area identifying the exercise and outlining any temporarily restricted sections near the water.
Town officials emphasized that no hazardous materials will be used during the exercise.
Enbridge says the drill is pre planned and forms part of the company’s regular emergency response training aimed at maintaining a high level of operational readiness.
The Town also noted that Enbridge will follow environmental guidelines and applicable permit requirements throughout the exercise.
The exercise is expected to conclude by early afternoon May 26.
