Health officials across the country are urging Canadians to stay up to date on routine vaccinations as part of National Immunization Awareness Week.
National Immunization Awareness Week is held annually to highlight the role vaccines play in protecting public health and preventing the spread of infectious disease.
MBC caught up with the Ontario Medical Association’s Dr. Piotr Oglaza.
Oglaza, who is also the chair of the OMA Section of Public Health Physicians, says he believes there is a need for a province-wide immunization registry.
This year’s campaign coincides with Vaccination Week in the Americas, led by the Pan American Health Organization, and World Health Organization World Immunization Week.
Officials say vaccination remains one of the most effective tools to protect individuals, families and communities from serious infectious disease.
