Campbellford Memorial Hospital Foundation is putting a laid-back cottage-country spin on fundraising with the launch of Toss for the Cause, a new cornhole tournament designed to support better care close to home.
Taking place Saturday, May 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Campbellford Curling Club, the inaugural event combines friendly competition, food, music and fundraising – all with what organizers describe as a flip-flops and Muskoka chair kind of atmosphere.
Shari Gottschalk, Development and Communications Officer with CMH Foundation, says the goal was to create a signature event that feels welcoming and fun for everyone, not formal or intimidating.
She says cornhole was the perfect fit because it is easy to play, highly social and appeals to both serious competitors and first-time participants.
The tournament guarantees each team at least three games in a round robin format before the top 16 teams advance to the finals. There is also $1,000 in cash prizes up for grabs, with $500 going to first place.
Registration is $60 per person and includes lunch, snacks and a $30 charitable tax receipt.
Participants will also receive a team photo, while guests can enjoy a licensed cash bar, the 50-50 raffle called Split the Cobs and a skills competition called Air Mail at the Cottage.
Most importantly, every dollar raised stays local.
Funds raised through pledges will help purchase stretchers for Campbellford Memorial Hospital, improving patient comfort, dignity and care.
Teams can register now at tossforthecause.ca.
