The Northumberland Family Health Team has announced the appointment of Theo Barker as its new Executive Director.
Barker steps into the role after serving as interim co-lead during a recent leadership transition. He joined the organization in March 2015 and has worked as a physiotherapist, certified respiratory educator, and clinical lead.
Board Chair Dr. Emma Smith says Barker has been an integral part of the organization for more than a decade and has shown strong dedication to the success of the Family Health Team.
Officials say Barker is well known across Northumberland County for his collaborative work in the healthcare community. Prior to joining the Family Health Team, he worked at Northumberland Hills Hospital and Michael Garron Hospital, formerly known as Toronto East General Hospital.
His commitment to patient care was also recognized through a Best Healthcare Service award from the Northumberland Spirit Awards.
The Northumberland Family Health Team is a non-profit primary care organization serving more than 26,000 patients. Its inter-professional team includes family physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, therapists, dietitians, social workers, and pharmacists working together to provide coordinated care.
Officials say Barker’s experience within the organization and strong local healthcare relationships position him well to lead the team moving forward.
