Highland Shores Children’s Aid Society is recognizing the contributions of volunteers as part of National Volunteer Week, running from April 19 to April 25.
The national campaign, led by Volunteer Canada, is centred on the theme “Ignite Volunteerism,” which aims to celebrate civic participation and encourage greater community involvement.
Highland Shores Children’s Aid says volunteers continue to play a vital role in supporting children, youth, and families across Northumberland and surrounding regions.
During the 2025 to 2026 fiscal year, 26 individuals contributed their time as board members or volunteer drivers. The organization reports that volunteer drivers logged more than 429,700 kilometres, providing transportation support for families and youth, while contributing approximately 2,299 volunteer hours.
In addition, board members participated in more than 27 meetings over the year, helping guide governance and organizational planning.
Officials say these efforts demonstrate the importance of volunteerism in delivering services and supporting community well-being.
National Volunteer Week highlights the broader impact of volunteers across Canada, recognizing their role in addressing social, economic, and environmental challenges.
Highland Shores Children’s Aid says those interested in volunteering, including serving on the board of directors, can find more information through the organization’s website or by contacting the agency directly.
The organization provides services to children and youth in Northumberland, Hastings, and Prince Edward counties.
