Cobourg police say they are investigating reports of an unknown man attempting to access vehicles and a residence in the west end of town.
According to the Cobourg Police Service, the incident occurred overnight on April 12 in the King Street West area.
Police say the individual attempted to enter multiple vehicles and also tried to access the door of a nearby residence.
Officers say no entry was gained, as all vehicles and the home were locked at the time.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Police are using the incident as a reminder for residents to take precautions to reduce the risk of theft.
That includes locking vehicles, removing valuables from sight, and ensuring all doors and windows are secured, even when parked at home.
They also recommend keeping garage doors closed when unattended and improving exterior lighting around properties, particularly in areas with limited visibility.
Cobourg police say residents can also request a CPTED audit to identify potential safety concerns around their home.
Anyone who observes suspicious activity is encouraged to report it to police.
