Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny participants await the start of the race.
Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny returns to Port Hope this Saturday, marking what many consider the unofficial start of spring in Northumberland County.
The annual event draws large crowds to the Ganaraska River and downtown core, with race activities and celebrations centred around Fannyville. The day includes river races, live entertainment, vendors, and opportunities for participants to register and take part in the long running tradition. Full event details, including race day registration, are available at floatyourfanny.ca.
Alongside the festivities, residents and visitors are being advised of several road closures and parking restrictions. Closures will be in effect across key downtown streets, including areas around Barrett Street, Cavan Street, and Maitland Street, with some roads limited to local or event traffic only.
Parking will also be restricted in several locations, including the Cavan Street municipal lot, with vehicles subject to removal during designated times.
Transit adjustments will begin Friday, with detours in place and an event shuttle running between the Jack Burger Sports Complex, launch areas, and Fannyville throughout the day Saturday.
Officials are also reminding attendees to plan ahead and follow event guidelines. Due to large crowds, visitors are encouraged to leave pets at home, and items such as water balloons are not permitted. Open alcohol is restricted to licensed areas only.
Emergency services will be on site throughout the event, including monitoring river conditions. Organizers note the race remains weather dependent, with updates to be provided if conditions change.
