Cobourg police say a 39 year old man is facing a sexual assault charge following an investigation into a reported incident from 2023.
Police say the investigation began March 26 after receiving a report of a historical sexual assault in the Town of Cobourg. Following the investigation, officers arrested the accused on April 2.
The individual has been charged with sexual assault and was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
Police have not released further details about the incident.
Cobourg Police Service is reminding the public that there is no statute of limitations on sexual offences, meaning charges can be laid regardless of how much time has passed since the alleged incident.
A sexual assault is defined as any non consensual contact of a sexual nature.
Police are encouraging anyone who believes they may have been the victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident.
They say support is available and investigations can proceed even years after an alleged offence.
