OPP say a 19 year old Alnwick/Haldimand resident is facing multiple charges after a loaded firearm was seized during an impaired driving investigation.
Police say officers were called to 7th Line Road around 9:45 p.m. on March 25 after receiving a report of a suspicious vehicle near a residence.
When officers arrived, OPP say they spoke with the driver and determined the individual was wanted on an outstanding warrant. Police say an impaired driving investigation was initiated, and the driver was taken into custody.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, OPP say officers located and seized a loaded rifle.
As a result of the investigation, the accused faces charges including operation while impaired, operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, and occupying a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm. The accused is also charged with failing to comply with a sentence.
Police say the individual cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, as one of the offences relates to a time when the accused was a youth.
The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
OPP continue to remind the public to report suspicious activity to police.
