Port Hope police say a Cobourg man is facing impaired driving charges following a single vehicle collision earlier this week.
Officers were called Sunday evening, March 15, to the intersection of Jocelyn Street and Cavan Street after reports a vehicle had struck a barrier.
Police say the driver left the scene before officers arrived, but was located nearby a short time later and taken into custody.
Following an investigation, police allege the driver was impaired by alcohol. Breath tests conducted after the arrest confirmed a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.
A 32 year old Cobourg man has been charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Police continue to remind residents that impaired driving remains a serious safety concern on local roads and urge anyone who suspects a driver may be impaired to contact police immediately.
