A 38-year-old man has been charged in connection with an ongoing investigation into a reported threat at ENSS in Brighton dating back to mid-February, according to police.
In an update Friday, March 6, 2026, Northumberland OPP said an additional person had been charged as part of an ongoing investigation that started in February involving “a reported threat a local secondary school in Brighton.”
Northumberland OPP said the update was being issued following continued investigative steps, including the execution of a search warrant at a residence.
As previously reported, one youth was earlier charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm in connection with the probe. This followed officers responding to information about a potential threat to school safety on Feb. 12, 2026.
“Police confirmed at that time that the individual associated with the report was not present at the school and that there was no immediate risk to students or staff,” reiterated OPP.
In their latest update, police said as a result of ongoing investigative work, on March 2, a 38-year-old man was arrested and charged with four counts of careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition.
None of the charges for either of the accused have been proven in court.
Police said the accused 38-year-old man will appear in Cobourg court in April but didn’t specify a date.
OPP also said the accused won’t be named to protect the identity of the youth in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
“The investigation remains ongoing with the assistance of the OPP crime unit. No additional information will be released at this time.”
