Cobourg police say a former Catholic elementary school teacher is now facing additional charges in an ongoing historical sexual assault investigation.
On Friday, March 6, 2026, the Cobourg Police Service said following the distribution of an earlier release on Feb. 2, 2026, investigators have since received multiple tips, which led to further charges.
Police said as a result of the ongoing investigation, members of the service’s criminal investigations bureau arrested Jack Vollering, 80, on March 5, 2026.
The accused is now facing an additional three counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual interference with a person under 14 years of age, two counts of sexual exploitation, three counts of indecent assault on a female, and one count of assault.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing and subsequently released to a surety, reported police.
“The investigation is ongoing, as there may be other victims,” added police.
Anyone with information relating to this investigation is asked to contact the service at 905-372-6821 or leave an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers online or by calling 1-800-222-8477.
Back on Feb. 2, police stated in a release that on Dec. 16, 2025, an investigation was initiated into allegations of a historical sexual assault against a young person involving a teacher at a St. Michael Catholic Elementary School in Cobourg, occurring between 1992 and 1993.
In that release, police stated that on Jan. 31, 2026, the accused was arrested and charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and sexual exploitation.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The Cobourg Police Service is also reminding the public that there is no statute of limitations for sexual offences, and that offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of an offence.
Police continue to encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of sexual assault to report the incident.
