Cobourg police say there is no threat to public safety after an investigation into alleged threats referencing a firearm at a local elementary school – and that their initial probe has determined the allegations involving a firearm were “false or misleading.”
According to the Cobourg Police Service, on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026, at about 6:35 p.m., an investigation was initiated after police received reports from concerned residents regarding a student allegedly making a threat involving a firearm at a local elementary school earlier in the day.
“Police immediately contacted school officials and conducted a thorough investigation,” said the service. “Based on the information gathered to this point, no threat was identified and allegations involving a firearm were determined to be false or misleading.”
The service said it continues to work closely with school administrators and community partners to ensure the continued safety and well-being of students, staff and the broader community. Police are also thanking the public for its co-operation.
No other details were released by police.
