The Town of Cobourg says it’s started preparing residents for the 2026 municipal and school board election, with public information campaigns set to expand in the coming months.
Municipal officials say election materials will begin appearing in town facilities and buildings as part of early outreach. Voting day is scheduled for Monday, October 26, 2026, with the online voting period opening ten days earlier on Friday, October 16.
Cobourg will again use an internet based voting system, allowing eligible electors to cast a ballot from any location during the voting window. For those who require support, voter help centres will operate during the election period. Details about where those centres will be located and the services offered are expected closer to October.
A dedicated election website, CobourgVotes.ca, is slated to launch at the end of March. The portal will include important dates, instructions on how to vote, candidate information and answers to frequently asked questions.
Residents are being encouraged to make sure their information on the voters list is accurate. Elections Ontario maintains the Permanent Register of Electors, and updates can be made through RegisterToVoteON.ca. School support designations continue to be handled by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation.
For those interested in running for office, the nomination period opens May 1. Additional candidate resources and guidance are expected from the municipality in the weeks ahead.
