A 43 year old man from Oshawa is facing several charges following a reported shoplifting incident in Cobourg.
Police say officers were called to a business on Strathy Road at around 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, after staff reported a theft in progress. According to police, employees observed a man leaving the store with a basket of unpaid merchandise.
When staff approached the individual outside the business and asked him to provide a receipt, police say the man attempted to flee the area on foot. Officers located the suspect a short distance away and took him into custody.
Following the investigation, police charged the man with theft under five thousand dollars, possession of property obtained by crime under five thousand dollars, and failing to comply with probation.
Police also confirmed the accused was bound by probation orders at the time of the incident. He was held in custody for a bail hearing and later remanded into custody.
