Northumberland OPP say a man is facing charges following an investigation into intimate partner violence in Hamilton Township.
Police say officers were called to a residence on February 2 after receiving a report of a domestic incident that was in progress. As a result of the investigation, a suspect was taken into custody.
According to police, a 44 year old man from Hamilton Township has been charged with two counts of assault causing bodily harm, choke, suffocate or strangle. The accused cannot be named in order to protect the identity of the victim.
Northumberland OPP say the man was held in custody for a bail hearing and has since been released with conditions. He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on a later date.
Police note the charges have not been proven in court.
