George Kallonakis hamming it up with reporter/anchor Joseph Goden
There is more good news for Port Hope’s food scene and tourism profile as Olympus Burger continues operating under new ownership, while co-founder George Kallonakis remains an active and engaged community leader.
After 13 years building the restaurant into a nationally recognized destination, Kallonakis stepped back earlier this year, saying the business had surpassed every goal he originally set. The transition ensures the popular burger spot stays open while its legacy carries forward.
Olympus Burger earned widespread attention that helped draw visitors to Port Hope and spotlight the municipality on the national culinary stage.
Kallonakis highlighted some of the biggest milestones during a recent interview.
He also credits strong community backing for the restaurant’s long run of success.
Along with national media coverage and industry awards, Olympus Burger has also been recognized by major brands and publications and ranked among top burger destinations globally, further boosting Port Hope’s visibility.
Kallonakis is not leaving town. He continues to serve as Chair of the Port Hope Police Service Board, is active with the Masons, and sits on several local boards.
With the restaurant still operating and its co-founder actively giving back, the Olympus Burger story remains a point of pride for Northumberland and a testament to how connecting with customers can make a real difference to a business’s bottom line – something Kallonakis hopes his former patrons will allow the new owners to continue.
