Hibernate is back in downtown Port Hope, turning the heart of the community into a winter arts hub over Family Day weekend and for the first time, the festival is completely free.
Now in its fourth year, Hibernate is presented by Cultivate Community and was created to bring people together during what is often the coldest and quietest stretch of winter.
The festival grew out of Cultivate’s broader arts programming and has evolved each year since its launch. Originally built around ticketed concerts, organizers shifted the focus toward accessibility and shared community experiences, a change that aligns with Cultivate Community becoming a registered charity in 2025.
Jeff Bray, executive director of Cultivate Community, says the goal was to remove barriers and invite more people to take part.
Programming runs throughout downtown Port Hope on Saturday and Sunday of Family Day weekend, with most activities taking place indoors. Visitors can move from shop to shop and venue to venue, experiencing live music, visual arts, and hands-on creative activities.
The festival wraps up on Family Day Monday with a larger gathering at the Port Hope Lions Centre, transforming the space into an indoor winter festival.
Organizers say Hibernate is about more than entertainment, it’s about connection, supporting local businesses, and giving residents a reason to come together during winter.
