Cobourg Police Service is asking for the public’s assistance as officers continue investigating a dangerous driving incident involving a vehicle that fled police on two separate occasions.
Police say the first incident occurred around 1 a.m. on January 14, when officers conducting traffic enforcement near D’Arcy Street and Alexandria Drive observed a vehicle committing multiple Highway Traffic Act offences. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle allegedly turned off its lights and fled at a high rate of speed. Police did not pursue out of concern for public safety.
Later that same day, around 8 p.m., officers located what is believed to be the same vehicle in the west end of Cobourg. Police say the driver again committed several traffic offences and fled when officers attempted to stop the vehicle. Officers once again chose not to pursue. The vehicle was last seen travelling westbound on Carlisle Street from Rogers Road and was later observed in Port Hope near Hamilton Road and Croft Street.
The vehicle is described as a blue Lexus IS250 with a missing rear bumper, different-coloured wheels, tinted windows, and a tinted rear licence plate cover.
Police are urging the individual or individuals involved to come forward to help resolve the matter. Anyone with information, dashcam footage, or security video is asked to contact the Cobourg Police Service at 905-372-6821 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS or stopcrimehere.ca. Tips may be eligible for a cash reward.
