Northumberland OPP say a traffic stop on Highway 401 in Cramahe Township on December 11, 2025, has resulted in impaired driving charges.
Officers report observing a vehicle travelling eastbound at approximately 130 kilometres per hour while unable to maintain its lane.
Police say the driver, a 34-year-old Plainfield resident, was taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for testing. Charges laid include operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80, and speeding. In addition, a 90-day administrative driver’s license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impound were applied under statutory requirements.
The driver is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in January 2026.
The OPP emphasize that impaired driving is a serious criminal offence and remind the public that if they know or suspect a driver is impaired, they should call 9-1-1. Officers advise anyone planning to drink or consume drugs to arrange a designated driver, use a taxi or public transit, or plan ahead to avoid impaired driving.
