The Town of Greater Napanee plans to set aside $4.8 million for Ontario Provincial Police services in its 2026 budget. The amount is $475,000 higher than last year and will add 2.9 per cent to the town’s tax levy.
The OPP billing model combines a base rate for policing with a projected number of service calls, using call volumes from previous years. While OPP fees can rise annually, the province caps increases at 11 per cent to help control costs.
Based on the billing statement, the average household will pay $607.31 for policing in 2026. That includes $203.05 for base services, $313.46 for service calls, $28.36 for overtime, $54.05 for court security, $2.08 for prisoner transportation and $6.32 for accommodation and cleaning.
Town officials say Napanee would have paid an additional $694,111 without the provincial cap, which limits how much local police costs can climb from one year to the next.
