Peterborough has been recognized as one of the most generous communities in Canada, landing 11th on GoFundMe’s annual Top 20 Most Generous Communities list for 2025.
The ranking is based on unique donors per capita across the platform, reflecting how often residents step up to support neighbours, local causes and urgent needs.
GoFundMe recorded over 4,700 donors in Peterborough for 2025, and with a population of more than 83,600, that results in a per capita donor rate of 5.67 per cent.
Victoria topped the list for the third consecutive year, but Peterborough’s strong showing signals a continued culture of giving. The city ranked ahead of several larger centres, including Calgary, Brampton and Barrie.
GoFundMe highlighted stories that show the impact of grassroots generosity, including Toronto advocate Ryan Donais’ Tiny Tiny Homes project, which raised nearly $140,000 in 2025 to build micro-shelters for people experiencing homelessness.
The platform also introduced category leaders this year, noting Toronto raised the most funds in Education, Medical and Emergencies.
