A Clarington councillor has been charged following a three-month investigation by the Peterborough Police Service into alleged threatening communications connected to the municipality’s upcoming mayoral race.
Police say the investigation began in early September after the Durham Regional Police Service asked Peterborough officers to look into communications involving a potential mayoral candidate. The matter also involved a former DRPS officer and a current member of the service.
On Wednesday, officers arrested 41-year-old Corinna Traill of Clarington and charged her with two counts of uttering threats. She has been released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on January 13th.
Police say the investigation has now concluded and, as the case is before the courts, no further details will be released.
