In a bid to make to art more accessible to those who might not be able to afford it, Lakefield-based artist David Goyette is donating more than 40 of his original abstract paintings to ECCO Art Gallery Studios.
On December 7th, from 1 to 4 p.m., the gallery, located on Queen Street in Lakefield, will display the paintings, with people invited, on a first come first served basis, to choose one per family to bring home. Donations, however, are being accepted for Kawartha Food Share.
ECCO general manager and curator Jody Ridpath says both she and gallery owner Pina Romano were “blown away” by Goyette’s offer.
Ridpath says the art giveaway, being presented under the title Art For All, couldn’t come at a better time for Lakefield.
Ridpath says Goyette’s generous offer not only fits with the gallery’s mandate of making art accessible to all but will also bring the curious through the door.
