Greater Napanee council has voted to pause its Aquatics Advisory Committee after a series of resignations left the group unable to function. The decision came at the latest regular council meeting, where several councillors reflected on the late councillor Dave Pinnell’s long push to bring a public pool to the community.
Council updated the committee’s mandate earlier this year, directing members to look at aquatics-related recreation instead of a new pool, which staff say is not financially possible in the near future. But when the committee met on Oct. 7 under this new direction, two members resigned, followed by a third during rescheduling. With only three members remaining, the group could not make quorum for two additional meetings.
Staff recommended accepting the resignations and pausing the committee until the next term of council, when a new group will be appointed. For now, its responsibilities will be folded into the Recreation Advisory Committee. Councillors praised past members and acknowledged the emotional ties to Pinnell’s efforts.
