Kawartha Lacrosse is celebrating a breakthrough season after its under-11 girls team captured silver at the Ontario Lacrosse Association’s Sixes Provincial Championships in Hamilton.
The October 25th–26th event featured top youth teams from across Ontario competing in Sixes — the fast-paced, Olympic-style format gaining popularity across the sport.
“It has been rewarding to watch these young athletes grow as teammates and competitors throughout our inaugural Sixes season,” said head coach Tara King. “I’m incredibly proud of our athletes, their families, and my fellow coaches — everyone represented Kawartha Lacrosse with honour and respect.”
Despite fielding a smaller roster and three underage players from the U9 division, the team showed skill and grit throughout the tournament.
King said the experience was especially meaningful because she coached alongside her former Kawartha Lacrosse teammates — with their daughters now wearing the same colours.
“It’s come full circle,” she said. “To see our daughters play the game we love, with that same determination and spirit, made this season unforgettable.”
Kawartha Lacrosse, one of the smallest organizations in the Ontario Women’s Field Lacrosse League, continues to exceed expectations through a network of volunteer coaches, managers and trainers.
King credited that community commitment — and the club’s local sponsors — for helping the players succeed.
“Every bit of support, from equipment to travel, makes a difference,” she said. “Our sponsors and volunteers allow us to provide a positive and competitive experience for these girls.”
