The streets of downtown Port Hope were once again alive with movie magic as the community hosted the official Canadian red-carpet premiere of HBO’s IT: Welcome to Derry on Wednesday, October 29, at the historic Capitol Theatre.
The event, presented in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery, Ontario Creates, Port Hope Tourism, and Crave, celebrated the highly anticipated prequel to the IT film franchise – much of which was filmed in Port Hope.
A private industry screening kicked off the event, featuring the creative team behind the series, including producer Andy Muschietti, as well as local businesses and crew who contributed to the production. Later, residents were invited to attend a free community screening featuring Episode 1 and an exclusive preview of Episode 2, introduced by the series’ director and producer.
Port Hope Mayor Olena Hankivsky says it’s a proud moment for the town.
Local crew members were also part of the celebration, including Miranda Lukaniuk, personal dresser for Bill Skarsgård – who returns as Pennywise.
Lukaniuk added that working on the project in her own hometown was especially rewarding.
IT: Welcome to Derry expands on Stephen King’s chilling universe and is now streaming exclusively on Crave.
