Emergency crews responded to a tragic incident at the canal near Maria Street and Ashburnham Drive Wednesday afternoon after reports of a child in the water.
Police say the call came in around 12:30 p.m. Two officers entered the water, located the child, and brought them to shore.
Life-saving measures were performed by officers and paramedics before the child was taken to hospital.
Investigators say there is no indication of criminality. Police are asking for compassion and privacy for all involved.
