Blue Jays fans and baseball enthusiasts can catch all the action of the World Series at free outdoor watch parties in Downtown Peterborough, starting Saturday.
The events will take place at Quaker Foods City Square, 215 Charlotte Street, rain or shine, with a live stream of the game beginning at 8 p.m., following the city’s Halloween in the Booro festivities. The Peterborough Downtown Business Improvement Area is organizing the watch parties, with the City of Peterborough providing financial support for the screen, sound, and servicing.
“Downtown Peterborough is at its best when people come together to celebrate and connect,” said Nour Mazloum, Executive Director of the Peterborough DBIA. “We’re thrilled to partner with the City to host these community watch parties for the Toronto Blue Jays as they advance to the World Series. It’s a wonderful example of how downtown can bring people together to share moments of excitement, pride and celebration.”
Fans can enjoy the mega screen streaming the Toronto Blue Jays’ showdown with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the championship. Snacks, vendors, and a The Boro merchandise booth will be on site. Free parking is available after 6 p.m. along the street and in the nearby King Street Parkade.
Mayor Jeff Leal encouraged residents to participate. “We’re looking forward to joining communities across Canada in cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays in a proudly Peterborough way,” he said. “I encourage everyone to don their blue and white and mark this historic sports moment together in the Quaker Foods City Square.”
Attendees are advised to bring their own chairs and blankets and dress appropriately for the weather. Blue Jays apparel or blue-and-white clothing is encouraged to show team spirit.
Additional watch parties are planned for Game 3 on Monday, October 27th, and Game 4 on Tuesday, October 28th, with the possibility of more events for games 5 to 7, depending on the series outcome.
