The Cobourg Police Service is investigating a theft and a suspicious vehicle that fled from officers early Friday morning.
Police say that around 12:30 a.m. on October 10, officers on patrol saw a dark blue or black four-door vehicle, possibly a Lexus, exiting a gas station on Division Street. The car had light-coloured rims, no front licence plate, and an obstructed rear plate. When police attempted to stop the vehicle, it accelerated rapidly, allegedly reaching speeds of more than 100 km/h while heading north on Highway 45. Officers did not pursue the vehicle due to public safety concerns.
When police returned to the gas station, they reviewed surveillance footage showing the vehicle reversing into a parking space before a lone male suspect entered the store and reportedly stole multiple items.
Acoording to police, the suspect then fled in the same vehicle.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing and are asking anyone with information about the incident or the suspect to contact the Cobourg Police Service at 905-372-6821, or to submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or stopcrimehere.ca.
Tips submitted through Crime Stoppers may be eligible for a cash reward.
