The Ontario Provincial Police say they are reviewing an incident after a video surfaced showing an officer at a restaurant.
The video shows the officer responding to a request from restaurant staff to remove a person who was filming inside. Under Ontario’s Trespass to Property Act, property owners or those in charge have the right to decide what is prohibited on their property. If someone refuses to leave when asked, they may be trespassing, and police can be called to assist.
In a statement, the OPP admitted the officer’s response seen in the video did not align with the law. The incident is now under internal review to ensure officers follow proper conduct and apply legislation correctly.
Police say they remain committed to training and guiding officers so that responses reflect professionalism and legal standards.
The OPP confirmed they conducted an initial investigation into the original call at the restaurant. The matter has since been referred to the Canada Border Services Agency.
myFM has reached out to the CBSA and are awaiting comment on the investigation.
