For the second time in two days, Cobourg Collegiate Institute was evacuated this morning after a possible gas leak was reported.
According to the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, school buses arriving at CCI were met by staff as Cobourg firefighters and facilities personnel investigated the source of the leak, which was located outside the building. The gas supply was turned off while crews worked to ventilate the school.
During that time, students and staff were supervised at nearby Donegal Park until the building was declared safe. Students were cleared to return just after 8:20 a.m., allowing the school day to continue as normal.
Officials say cooperation from students, staff, and families helped ensure the evacuation went smoothly.
Today’s incident follows a minor gas leak that led to an evacuation at the school just yesterday, also requiring a fire department response.
The school board says safety remains the top priority, and both incidents were managed quickly with no injuries reported.
Parents with concerns are encouraged to contact the school directly.
