The Tyendinaga Native Women’s Association will host its fifth annual Every Child Matters Walk on September 30, starting at 10 a.m. at the Band Office. The walk honours children who never returned from residential schools and aims to raise awareness about the tragedies Indigenous communities faced.
Board Chairwoman Delores Maracle-Whalen said the event begins with speakers and performances before the walk. Chief Maracle will speak, and a youth member will perform a traditional dance.
The event encourages understanding, respect, and support between communities while keeping the memory of residential school survivors alive.
Maracle-Whalen said the walk is important for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.
The walk follows the route from the Band Office to the Community Centre and back. Organizers encourage everyone to join, take part in the activities, and help ensure the message of remembrance and awareness reaches as many people as possible.
